Christine Van den Wyngaert

Christine Van den Wyngaert, born 2 April 1952 in Antwerp, Belgium, and made a Baroness in 2013, is a Belgian jurist specializing in international and comparative criminal law who taught at the University of Antwerp from 1985 and held a visiting fellowship at Cambridge University. She served as an ad hoc judge of the International Court of Justice from 2000 to 2002, including in the Yerodia case, and was a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, first ad litem from 2003 to 2005 and then as a permanent judge from November 2005 to 2009. Nominated by Belgium, she served on the International Criminal Court's Trial Division from 2009 to 2018, participating in the Kenya investigations and the trial of Congolese warlord Germain Katanga, in which she filed dissenting opinions.
