Sir Percy Claude Spender, who lived from October 5, 1897, to May 3, 1985, was an Australian politician, diplomat and judge born in Darlinghurst, New South Wales. He represented the seat of Warringah in the Australian Parliament from 1937 to 1951, holding cabinet positions including Treasurer and Minister for External Affairs during the Second World War and the postwar period. He became the first Australian appointed to the International Court of Justice, serving as a judge from February 6, 1958, to February 5, 1967, and as the court's president for the final three years of his term, from 1964 to 1967.
