Hardy Cross Dillard, who lived from 23 October 1902 to 12 May 1982, was an American jurist born in New Orleans. A graduate of the United States Military Academy and holder of a law degree from the University of Virginia, he served as an Army colonel during the Second World War, including as deputy chief of staff for civil affairs in the China Command, and afterward as first director of the National War College in 1946 and as legal adviser to the United States High Commissioner for Germany in 1950. He served as Dean of the University of Virginia School of Law from 1963 to 1968, and was elected a judge of the International Court of Justice, serving a nine-year term from 1970 to 1979.
