Sir Cecil James Barrington Hurst (1870 to 1963) was a British international lawyer born in Horsham, Sussex, educated at Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He joined the British Foreign Office in 1902 as Assistant Legal Adviser and rose to Principal Legal Adviser in 1918, taking part in the 1907 Hague Convention, the 1908 to 1909 London Naval Conference and the 1919 Paris Peace Conference drafting committee. He served as a judge of the Permanent Court of International Justice from 1929 to 1945, and was president of the court from 1934 to 1936. He died in 1963.
