Joyce Aluoch

Joyce Aluoch, born in 1947, is a Kenyan lawyer who holds a law degree from the University of Nairobi, a diploma in legal studies from the Kenya School of Law, and a 2008 master's degree in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She served as a judge of Kenya's High Court and held leadership positions in child welfare committees before her election, from the African group of states, as a judge of the International Criminal Court, serving from 2009 until her nine-year term expired in 2018; she was First Vice-President of the Court from 11 March 2015 to 10 March 2018. She presided over Trial Chamber IV and Pre-Trial Chamber I, handling cases including those of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi and Ahmad al-Mahdi, and the Jean-Pierre Bemba case concerning crimes of sexual violence.
