Gaetano Morelli, who lived from May 23, 1900, in Crotone, to May 22, 1989, in Rome, was an Italian jurist and legal scholar who earned his law doctorate in 1921 from the University of Rome under the supervision of Dionisio Anzilotti. He held professorships at the universities of Modena, Padua, Naples and, from 1951, Rome, and lectured twice at the Hague Academy of International Law. A committed legal positivist, he served as a judge ad hoc before his election to the International Court of Justice, where he sat as a judge from 1961 to 1970.
