Salah el-Din Tarazi, who lived from December 24, 1917, in Damascus, to October 4, 1980, in The Hague, was a Syrian lawyer and diplomat who represented Syria at the United Nations General Assembly and served as Syria's ambassador to Belgium, the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, China and Turkey between 1951 and 1974, and as Syria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1962 to 1964. He was elected a judge of the International Court of Justice, with his term beginning in February 1976, and served until his death in a traffic accident in The Hague on October 4, 1980.
