Frederik Harhoff

Frederik Harhoff is a Danish jurist, born May 27, 1949. He earned his LL.D from the University of Copenhagen in 1993, having already held academic posts there including assistant professor of international law from 1985 and senior lecturer from 2002, and in October 2002 he became Senior Legal Officer in Chambers at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. He served as an ad litem judge of the tribunal from January 9, 2007, to August 28, 2013, a tenure that became controversial after a confidential letter he wrote criticizing conviction standards in war crimes trials, and suggesting that Tribunal President Theodor Meron had raised the bar for convictions under outside influence, was leaked; he was subsequently disqualified from a separate trial and his term was not renewed.
