Dumisa Buhle Ntsebeza is a South African lawyer and political activist born October 31, 1949, in Cala, in the former Transkei. He rose to prominence in the 1990s as Commissioner and head of the investigative unit of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and later served as a commissioner on the United Nations International Commission of Inquiry on Darfur. In 2005 he became the first African to be conferred silk in the history of the Cape Bar. He was appointed a judge of the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, and completed his law degree while imprisoned for anti apartheid political activity in the 1970s.
