Mattias Guyomar

Mattias Guyomar is a French jurist, born 21 July 1968 in Guerande, who has served as President of the European Court of Human Rights since taking up office on 30 May 2025, succeeding Marko Bosnjak. He studied at the University of Nantes, the Institut d'etudes politiques de Paris and the Ecole nationale d'administration, worked at France's Conseil d'Etat from 1996, and later served as Associate Professor of Public Law at the University of Paris-Sud XI from 2004 to 2012 and at the University of Paris 2 Pantheon-Assas from 2012 to 2020, as well as Secretary-General of the French Electoral Commission from 1998 to 2020. He was elected judge in respect of France at the European Court of Human Rights on 22 June 2020 and became President of Section in May 2024 before his election to the court presidency.
