Taslim Olawale Elias was a Nigerian jurist who lived from 11 November 1914 to 14 August 1991, born and dying in Lagos. He served as Nigeria's Minister of Justice and Attorney-General from 1960 to 1966 and as Chief Justice of Nigeria from 1972 to 1975, while also helping draft the charter of the Organisation of African Unity and serving on the United Nations International Law Commission. He was elected a judge of the International Court of Justice in 1976, serving as its Vice-President from 1979 to 1982 and then as its President from 1982 to 1985, the first African jurist to hold that office.
