Nagendra Singh was an Indian lawyer and administrator who lived from 18 March 1914 to 11 December 1988, born in Dungarpur, Rajasthan and dying in The Hague. He built a long career in the Indian Civil Service, serving as a Regional Commissioner for the Eastern States, a member of the Constituent Assembly of India, a joint secretary in the Defence Ministry, secretary to the President of India from 1966 to 1972, and Chief Election Commissioner of India from October 1972 to February 1973, receiving the Padma Vibhushan in 1973 for his contributions to public affairs. He became the first Indian judge elected to the International Court of Justice, moving to The Hague in 1973, and served as the Court's President from 1985 until his death in 1988.
