Abdullah el-Erian, who lived from March 21, 1920, in Damanhur, Egypt, to December 12, 1981, in Leiden, was an Egyptian international lawyer and diplomat who headed the legal affairs and treaties department of Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1959 to 1968 and represented Egypt as Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva from 1968 to 1979. He was elected a member of the Institut de Droit International in 1967. He served as a judge of the International Court of Justice from 1979 until his death in 1981, and was succeeded on the court by Mohammed Bedjaoui.
