Jose Sette Camara Filho was a Brazilian lawyer, diplomat and politician who lived from 14 April 1920 to 30 August 2002, born in Alfenas, Minas Gerais and dying in Rio de Janeiro. He earned his law degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 1945, pursued graduate studies at McGill University, and served as Brazil's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in both Geneva and New York while also sitting on the United Nations International Law Commission. He was elected a judge of the International Court of Justice in 1979 and served until 1988, holding the office of Vice-President from 1982 to 1985.
