Austrian State Treaty

The Austrian State Treaty, also called the Austrian Independence Treaty, established Austria as a sovereign state. It was signed on 15 May 1955 in Vienna at the Schloss Belvedere by the Allied occupying powers, namely France, the United Kingdom, the United States and the Soviet Union, together with the Austrian government, and the neighbouring Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia acceded to it afterward. It officially came into force on 27 July 1955. Its full title is the Treaty for the re-establishment of an independent and democratic Austria, signed in Vienna on 15 May 1955, and its German title is Staatsvertrag betreffend die Wiederherstellung eines unabhaengigen und demokratischen Oesterreichs.
