1926 Slavery Convention

The 1926 Slavery Convention, formally the Convention to Suppress the Slave Trade and Slavery, is an international treaty created under the auspices of the League of Nations and first signed on 25 September 1926. It was registered in the League of Nations Treaty Series on 9 March 1927, the same day it went into effect. Its objective is to confirm and advance the suppression of slavery and of the slave trade. It was later extended by the Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery in 1956, adopted under the auspices of the United Nations, which carried the same aim forward after the League had been replaced. The convention is one of the early multilateral instruments against slavery.
