Sources disagree on the origin point: Wikipedia credits King Chindasuinth's 642 to 643 initiative, enlarged and published by his son Recceswinth around 653 to 654; the University of Cologne's Bibliotheca legum traces the Lex Visigothorum lineage further back, to King Leovigild (569 to 586) initiating it, with roots in the still-earlier Codex Euricianus under King Euric (466 to 484). Both readings are recorded rather than reconciled by guesswork.
