Kievan Rus' law, also called old Russian law or early Russian law, was the legal system of Kievan Rus', its successor principalities, and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from the thirteenth century onward. It drew on two main foundations, early Slavic customary practice and Zakon Russkiy, a body of custom partly recorded in the Rus'-Byzantine treaties, and some of its provisions share features with Germanic barbarian law codes such as Salic law. Its principal written sources were the Russkaya Pravda and the later Statutes of Lithuania.
