Izgoi

Izgoi, or izgoy, is a term originating in Kievan Rus'. In primary sources it denoted orphans placed under the protection of the church. In historiography of the period the term also describes a prince of Kievan Rus' excluded from succession to the Kievan throne because his father had never held the throne himself, as with two of Yaroslav the Wise's youngest sons.
