The Constitutional Court of Moldova is the sole body of constitutional jurisdiction in the Republic of Moldova, independent of any other public authority and obeying only the Constitution. It consists of six judges appointed for a six year term, and the judges of the court elect its President by secret ballot. During their mandate the judges are irremovable and independent. A judge must possess outstanding judicial knowledge, high professional competence and a length of service of at least fifteen years in the legal field, in teaching or in scientific activity in law. The court validates the result of the election for the office of President of the Republic and rules on the validation of the mandate of a member of Parliament.
