Andhra Pradesh High Court

Intermediate Appellate Courts

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh is the high court of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and serves as the state's principal court of appeal and supervision under the Indian judicial system. It was established in 1954 when the state was formed from part of the former Madras Presidency. After Hyderabad State merged with Andhra State, the court stayed at Guntur until 1956 and then worked from Hyderabad, the state capital. When the state was divided under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act of 2014, the Hyderabad court became a common high court for both successor states until a separate High Court for Andhra Pradesh was created by a presidential order effective 1 January 2019. It now sits at Amaravati in a three-storey building with 23 halls, built by Larsen and Toubro. Its authorised strength is 37 judges, 28 permanent and nine additional, and about 29 were serving at the time of the source.
