Officious intermeddler

Contract and Property Doctrine

An officious intermeddler is a person who voluntarily, and without request or pre-existing legal duty, interjects themself into the affairs of another and then seeks remuneration for services or reimbursement. Under the common law doctrine, such a person is not entitled to payment beyond whatever the other party chooses to give. The standard illustration is a neighbor who mows the lawn of a person away on vacation and then asks to be paid: the neighbor has no claim to payment, and one who tries to coerce payment is an officious intermeddler.

Entity-backed identity for the doctrine category value this doctrine already carries as an enum fact, resolved to a doctrine entity by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The enum fact itself stays on the entity unchanged.
