Law of the Bahamas

Common Law Family

The law of the Bahamas is founded on the English common law tradition. Judges are appointed through the Governor-General and the Judicial and Legal Service Commission under the Chief Justice, and the court hierarchy runs from the Supreme Court through the Court of Appeal up to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London as the country's final court of appeal.
