The Code of Entry and Residence of Foreigners and of the Right to Asylum, known by its French acronym CESEDA, is the French legal code governing the entry, residence, and asylum rights of foreign nationals in France. It was created on 24 November 2004 by Interior Minister Dominique de Villepin under Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin and came into force on 1 March 2005. The code consolidated rules on entry requirements, residency permits, family reunification, removal procedures, and asylum protection that had been amended almost every year between 1993 and 2003, replacing that patchwork with a single coherent framework for French immigration law.
