All German, Austrian and Swiss Civil Law Scholars

German, Austrian and Swiss Civil Law Scholars gathers the jurists of the German-language civilian tradition, centered on but not limited to the nineteenth century Pandectist school that reorganized Roman civil law into the systematic, conceptual structure later codified in the German Civil Code, the Burgerliches Gesetzbuch of 1900. Alongside the German Pandectists proper, this group includes the Austrian jurists who built and refined the older Allgemeines Burgerliches Gesetzbuch and the Swiss jurists, above all Eugen Huber, who drew on the same conceptual tradition to draft Switzerland's own Civil Code, work close enough in method and language to the German school to group together rather than split three ways.
