Wichmann von Seeburg (circa 1115 to 25 August 1192) was a medieval Saxon churchman and political leader who served as Bishop of Naumburg from 1150 to 1154 and Archbishop of Magdeburg from 1154 until his death, becoming the first Magdeburg prince-archbishop in 1180. He is credited with the first codification of Magdeburg town law in 1188, a body of municipal law that established a legal framework later adopted across many towns of Central and Eastern Europe. A loyal supporter of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, he was also an influential political and military figure who expanded Magdeburg territory, trade and colonization.
