James of Ibelin, who died in 1276, was a nobleman and jurist of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, holding the title count of Jaffa and Ascalon. Following his father John of Jaffa, who was also noted for his legal expertise, James became a recognized jurist of the crusader kingdom and, in 1271, championed the interests of Cypriot knights in a dispute with King Hugh III of Cyprus. Near the end of his life, in 1276, he dictated a legal treatise on his deathbed.
