Eike of Repgow (circa 1180 to circa 1233) was a medieval German administrator, a member of the Eastphalian gentry entitled to sit as a judge in the regional Thing court, who compiled the Sachsenspiegel between 1220 and 1233 at the request of Count Hoyer of Falkenstein. The Sachsenspiegel recorded existing Saxon customary law rather than creating new law, and stands as the first legal code written in German and among the earliest major works of Middle Low German prose. Eike first composed it in Latin before translating it into German, and the work went on to shape customary law across large parts of medieval Germany and beyond.
