Civil Code of the People's Republic of China

The Civil Code of the People's Republic of China is China's first unified civil law framework, enacted by the 13th National People's Congress on May 28, 2020 and effective from January 1, 2021. It consolidates nine formerly separate civil laws, including the Marriage Law, Inheritance Law, Contract Law, Property Law and Tort Liability Law, into a single code of 1,260 articles organized in seven books covering general provisions, property rights, contracts, personality rights, family relations, inheritance and tort liability.
