The Customs Code of the Russian Federation regulated customs in Russia until 2010. The version adopted on May 14, 2003, replaced an earlier code dating to 1993, and was intended to increase the efficiency of customs authorities by simplifying customs formalities and procedures amid the growth of Russia's economy and foreign trade. Tariffs under the code were separately regulated by the Russian Customs Tariff document, which took effect on April 1, 2000.
